Laughter is the Shortest Distance between Two People One day, when I was in middle school, after art class, I started to clean up the mess on my desk. Suddenly, I knocked over a cup of water when wiping off the pigment on it. The water inside spilt out and splashed everywhere. Even worse, some of my desk mate’s books were wet. I felt very sorry at that time and kept apologizing to her. I lowered my head and felt too guilty to say anything else, just like a guilty convict who waited for the final conviction. But nothing happened. She just looked at me and burst out into laughter, saying it was OK. I was quite at a loss. However, her kindness did relieve me a lot. Later, we became good friends gradually. I think it’s the magic of laughter that draws us closer to each other. From then on, I firmly believe that laughter is the shortest distance between two people. It is the best way, even more powerful than language, to start friendship. Hearty laughter delivers a message of kindness, understanding and comfort. Often, when two people meet, they would smile to each other. That helps to remove the embarrassing feelings and shorten the distance between them. As for the society, laughter is also a powerful weapon to narrow gaps of social interaction and sweep away frictions of human communication. Especially when we come to a strange place, it is easier to integrate into the local community if people all around greet with sincere laughter. Laughter is kind of magic that brings us warm sunshine even on a freezing winter day. No matter who we are, everyone can be the magician. My dear friends, are you ready now? Just use your magic: to smile or laugh and wait for the miracle to happen.
